‘Let Lata show the letter’

Right when all was going hunky-dory in B-town, a controversy erupts. Yes, after Sridevi’s spat with Tusshar Kapoor about Himmatwala, a war of words has broken out between Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi’s son Shahid Rafi.
The context? Lata’s interview in a paper where she recalled her fight with Rafi regarding royalty rights and the written apology he sent her [during the recording of the song Tasveer Tere Dil Mein for the film Maya].
Shahid organised a press conference on Wednesday in protest, saying Lata is lying and maligning his father’s name, especially now when neither Rafi nor composer Jaikishen are alive.
‘Lataji and some other singers were looking for royalty. My dad wasn’t very keen on that. They had a fight and he decided to stop singing with her,’ said Shahid.
He adds: ‘If that is the case, let her show the letter.’ According to Shahid, the patch-up is rather different. He says after his dad stopped singing with Lata, he continued getting offers for duets and opted to sing with Suman Kalyanpur.’
