‘Legalise unauthorised godowns for tax collection’

North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday passed a resolution and demanded the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Union Government to regularise the godowns in the areas of lal dora, extended lal dora, agricultural lands and unauthorised colonies.

Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Prasad Bhardwaj said that till these godowns are regularised they must be given a relief in the procurement of licenses. Bhardwaj also said that the godowns should be given an adhoc license and after the regularisation, taxes should be collected according to the Municipal laws.

Bhardwaj said that Delhi is the business hub of North India and to keep agricultural products in godowns is an old practice. He also added by saying that wheat, rice and pulses stored/stocked here are supplied in the city as well other parts of the country. He said that lakhs of families depend on these godowns for their livelihood.

He also said that lakhs of tonnes of food grains like wheat, pulses and rice are destroyed every year due to non-availability of proper storage space which could be served to the thousands of poor families. He also said that the godowns and stores located in rural areas, lal dora, extended lal dora, unauthorised colonies which fall in non-conforming area fulfill the need of National Capital Territory of Delhi. He said that the Union government along with the Delhi Development Authority is making a redevelopment of such areas where godowns exists.
