‘Legal action if nursery admission guidelines not adhered to’

Delhi education minister promises firm action against those who do not adhere to the guidelines issued by the Directorate of Education during nursery admission.

‘We will to take legal action against the schools not conforming to the norms, which are issued by the Directorate of Education for conducting admission to pre-school/pre-primary/class-I (entry level) for academic session 2012-13,’ said Kiran Walia, education minister of Delhi to Millennium Post.

She also said, ‘Legal notice has been issued to the Lady Irwin School of Delhi, for not adhering to the norms regarding the issue of sales of forms for the admission of nursery students.’ According to Walia, the school has started selling before the date fixed by the Directorate of Education for the sales of admission forms’.

Amit Singla, director, education, who is monitoring the schools warned that any derailment from the guidelines will be taken very seriously by the directorate.

‘The age for the nursery student has been fixed as 3 years 11 month and 30 days. If any school found breaking this law by undermining it and taking bribe for ineligible student or insist on donation will not be spared,’ said Singla.

According to him, ‘After the closure of admission process, all schools will have to send details of the number of vacant seats under EWS and disadvantaged groups to the district deputy director, education by 4 pm on 6 April 2013.’

The districts concerned will then compile a school- wise status of these vacant seats, so that the necessary steps are taken to fill them.

Last date of submission for the admission application is 15 January 2013.
