Left Front demands declassification of Netaji files to solve mystery over disappearance

The Left Front on Sunday demanded that the Government of India declassify files related to freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as they could throw light on events of his life and the mystery over his disappearance.

“The state government has declassified some files, but these do not throw up anything new. In fact, some independent researches have more information than these,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose claimed.

“The central government should declassify files related to Netaji so that the shroud over his disappearance gets cleared,” Bose said.

“If needed, there can be a discussion in Parliament on the issue of declassification,” he said. The West Bengal government had declassified Netaji-related 64 files, which were in its archives, in September last.

Speaking to the media after a meeting of the Left Front, Bose said that ‘Deshprem Divas’ (Patriotism Day) would be celebrated on the occasion of Netaji’s birthday on January 23.

A rally from Subodh Mallick Square in central Kolkata to Netaji’s statue at Red Road would be organised to mark the occasion.
