Guess what tops the agenda of the newly elected councillors once the the approval of elected members are done with? Laptops.

The sessions of the three corporations are scheduled between 16 - 22 May. The house of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) would hold its session on 16 May and South Delhi Municipal Corporation would sit on 22 May. While the sitting of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is scheduled for 17 May in its headquarters in Patpargunj.

'After the approval of the elected members of various zones, wards and other committees, we will introduce the resolution to provide laptops and mobile phones to all the councillors,' said Rajeshwar Nagapal, leader of the house in NDMC. The house is required to approve the elected members of various committees, standing committee and also nominated experts in education committee. The house of NDMC would sit on Wednesday at 2 pm.

The same was echoed by Subhash Arya, Leader of House in South Delhi. 'Laptops and mobile phones are important and the work is being adversely affected otherwise,' said Arya. The councillors were allotted laptops by erstwhile MCD, which had to be returned before the elections. But some deposited the required amount, preferring to keep the laptops issued to them.

'We are not able to have regular contacts with councillors as their mobile numbers have been deactivated and new ones are yet to be allotted,' added Arya. In the sitting of the house, the date for the constitution of respective standing committees would also be finalised.

'Providing laptops to councillors will be our only agenda after getting the approval of the house regarding appointments of various office bearers. The resolution has been drafted and it will certainly be approved from house,' said Mehak Singh, candidate for the post of chairman of Standing Committee in EDMC.

There are 272 councillors in these three corporations and almost all of them have demanded new laptops.
