Labourer dies at under-construction Metro station

The incident occurred around 9.45 am when the workers were dismantling a temporary tunnel ring, which fell on them, leaving one labourer dead and another injured, said spokesman of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

“The accident occurred at the under-construction Dashrathpuri Metro Station, on Janakpuri West-Kalindi Kunj corridor, when the segment of a temporary tunnel-ring fell on a labourer during its dismantling,” the official said.

The labourer, identified as 26-year-old Vijay, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Bhagat Chandra hospital, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

The other labourer, identified as Jai Prakash, who sustained injuries in the incident was discharged from the hospital after treatment, a senior police officer said.

A probe has been initiated into the matter and the Chief Project Manager of the corridor is investigating the incident, the DMRC spokesperson said adding that the work on the section was given to the contractors HCC-Samsung.

Meanwhile, a case under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) was registered against the contractors at Sagar Pur police station in this regard, the police officer said.
