Zakaria Street murder: Cops scan CCTV footages in area

Kolkata: Sleuths investigating the murder of 56 year old jeweller at Zakaria Street are scanning the CCTV footages in and around the area for leads in the case. Mohammad Selim, who dealt in precious gems and jewels, was found murdered inside the chamber of his shop at Zakaria Street close to Mohd Ali Park in central Kolkata on Monday night.
A resident of Orion Residency of Rajabazar the victim had been running his shop at Zakaria Street for the past three decades.
"We have sent two teams to different places on the basis of some source information. But we cannot divulge details," a senior official of the homicide squad of Kolkata Police's detective department said. The sleuths suspect that it was a murder for gain. However, they are not ruling out the possibility of personal enmity.
Several valuable gems, stones, cash and the mobile phone of the deceased were missing from inside the shop. Family members said three precious stones -costing a fortune -especially procured by the victim were also missing.
The victim was found with leucoplast on his face and neck. "He was both manually strangulated and throttled using leucoplast,"an investigating officer said.
The police are also scanning the telephonic conversations of Selim 24 hours prior to his murder. Besides the Jorasanko police, which has registered a murder case, the homicide section and anti-robbery section of detective department is carrying out the probe. "We are examining witnesses. It's too early to comment," a senior official of the detective department said.
