Youths throw 'acid' on school student

Kolkata: A Class IX student was seriously injured after a few youths allegedly threw acid on her face on Monday night at Daspur in East Midnapore.

According to a source, the girl belonged to Chandrokona in East Midnapore. She used to live with her maternal uncle's family in Daspur. On Monday, around 8:30 pm, when she was returning home after taking tuition classes, a few youths near Rajpur, who were standing at the roadside, threw something on the girl and fled. Local residents rushed to the spot after they heard the girl screaming in pain. They saw that there were burn injuries on her face.

It was suspected that the accused youths threw acid on her. She was rushed to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital where she is at present under treatment.

Daspur police station and the girl's family members were informed. The police visited spot and the hospital. An investigation has been started by the police. At present, the girl is in a state of shock and is unable to talk. The police are waiting for her to recover to know about the accused persons and the incident. The police are trying to find out if the girl was being stalked or if any of the youths was known to her. Till Tuesday, no one was arrested in the case.
