Youths molest 19-year-old in Balurghat

BALURGHAT: A 19-year-old homemaker was allegedly molested by some youths here on Wednesday night. The incident took place in Balurghat's Bhatpara Colony area.

According to a source, it was decided that the matter will be resolved in kangaroo court in presence of accused youths and the woman's family members. It has been alleged that the victim's family members were rampantly thrashed by the youths there while the hearing was going on. Two persons suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Balurghat hospital.

Police have received two separate complaints but no one has been arrested so far. A police source said the victim recently went to her maternal uncle's house. On Wednesday evening, while she along with her husband and cousin was going to a local fair, the youths allegedly molested her.

While protesting the incident, the victim's husband and cousin received threats from the accused. They had attacked the woman's family members in kangaroo court. The victim's maternal uncle and a neighbour were admitted to hospital and three motorbikes vandalised.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Dhiman Mitra, said: "If anyone is found guilty, he will be punished."
