Youth's body recovered from canal at Jibontala

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a youth whose body was found near a canal at Jibontala area of South 24 Parganas on Sunday morning.
Police said that the Asit Koyal (33), a resident of Shakti Pally area, was found lying near a canal. The locals rushed him to the nearby hospital where the doctors said that he had died a few hours ago.
The family members of the youth lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Asit was murdered following some quarrel over collecting subscription. On the basis of the compliant, police started a probe in this regard. Police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection. The family members of Asit told the police that he recently was involved in a quarrel with some of the locals over the collection of subscriptions for Kali Puja. They also said that he had developed a rivalry with some people few months and this could be a result of the incident. According to the police the victim had a strangulation mark on his neck which lead them to believe that he might have been murdered by strangulation. The victim left his house in the afternoon but he did not return home in the night. The family members searched various places and called up their relatives' houses but did not get any trace.
On Sunday morning, some of the local residents spotted the youth's body and informed the police. The family members also came to know about the incident. There was no shirt in the body. Police have sent the body for the post-mortem.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the murder of the victim. A detailed probe has been initiated.
