Youth shot dead at Baruipur in South 24-Parganas

Kolkata: A youth was shot dead at Baruipur in South 24-Parganas on Saturday night while he was trying to resolve a quarrel between his two friends.

According to sources, the deceased identified as Nizam Ali Mondal (28) was having a chat with some of his friends near Mallickpur rail gate in Baruipur. All of a sudden two of his friends identified as Sabbir and Altaf Baidya got involved in an altercation over some issue. Soon the altercation turned into a scuffle.

Seeing friends were getting violent, Mondal tried to stop them. When he was separating the duo to end the fight, Baidya all of a sudden took out a gun from his pocket and hit it on Mondal's head. When Mondal fell down bleeding, Baidya allegedly shot him on his chest and fled.

Mondal's other friends rushed him to Baruipur Sub Divisional Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Services were affected mainly on the Baruipur-Diamond Harbour and Namkhana sections. However, normal services were on in the Sonarpur, Canning and Budge Budge sections. Normal services resumed from 9:57 am after restrictions were lifted. Due to the blockade, seven local trains ran late and three pairs of local trains had to be cancelled.
