Youth shot at by miscreants near Belgachia

Kolkata: Tension ran high near Belgachia dumping ground at Liluah area on late Tuesday night after a local youth was shot at by some unidentified miscreants.

The victim, Joy Ghosh was returning home when three miscreants stopped him and shot him from close range.

After hearing the gun shot the local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. The miscreants managed to flee the spot after the incident. He was taken to the Howrah district hospital. He was later shifted to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated. The district police have started a probe in this regard. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the incident. Police are also investigating if the victim was a part of gambling racket that has been operating at Liluah. The investigators were not, however, ruling out the possibility of the victim being involved in the gambling racket. According to the doctors, the condition of the victim is critical.
