Youth run over by goods train in Birbhum, 2 injured

Kolkata: One school student was killed after being run-over by a goods train while listening to music on earphones sitting on the railway track. Two of his friends sustained serious injuries in the incident that took place in Karimpur area of Nalhati in Birbhum on Monday night.
According to police, the victim Suman Majumdar was listening to music on earphones the train in the Up line hit him. Two of his friends - Arpan Majumdar and Priyobrata Majumdar were also sitting on the track.
They received injuries when they tried to flee after the seeing the approaching train while the other could not save himself and was mowed down by the speeding train.
The railway police took the victims to the Rampurhat district hospital where Suman was declared brought dead while his friends have been undergoing treatment in the hospital.
According to police, all the three youth were glued to their mobile phones as a result of which they failed to listen to the horn.
Police said the youth often sit on the track in that area. Awareness campaign has been taken place among the youthsin the area. They have been requested not to sit there.
The incident has taken place within a month after one college student was knocked down by a local train between Dum Dum and Belghoria stations in a
similar fashion.
In the earlier incident, the deceased was sitting on the railway track while two of his friends were shooting a video with a
train on the background. One was killed after being run over while two of his friends got injured.
