Youth pummeled for protesting against woman's teasing

Kolkata: A youth who had protested against teasing of a local woman was badly injured by some local miscreants.

The incident had triggered tension in Karbala area of Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas on Saturday night.

The victim youth, Imanuddin was returning home on Saturday night when he saw that some miscreants who were in an inebriated state teasing a woman.

He protested against the incident and the miscreants pounced on him.

The victim was easily overpowered as the miscreants were 4-5 in number. The woman, however, managed to flee the spot as the accused started pummeling the youth.

The miscreants started punching on his chest. Imanuddin also received injuries on his head as one of the miscreants hit him on his head with a sharp weapon.

The local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the victim.

They rescued the injured victim and rushed him to a local health centre. The miscreants, however, fled the spot immediately after the incident. A compliant was also lodged at the local police station on the basis of which police have started a probe.

Police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection so far. The local residents alleged that after the sun goes down, miscreants gather in the area and booze in the open.

The local women cannot pass through the area because of the fear of getting molested. The police failed to take action despite repeated pleas, the local residents have alleged.
