Youth found dead in house, mob ransacks girlfriend's house

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a youth whose body was found hanging from the ceiling inside his residence at Shantimoy Nagar of New Town on Tuesday morning.
The victim, Surajit Roy was found dead in his room. The incident triggered tension in the area after the local residents ransacked the house of the victim's girlfriend. An irate mob also attacked the police and ransacked a police jeep when the latter went to the spot to bring the situation under control. A police officer was also injured during the incident. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to pacify the mob.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide after being jilted in a love affair. The incident took place on late Monday night. On Tuesday morning, the family members came to know about the incident. The investigators are yet to confirm the exact cause of his death.
Chaos broke out on Tuesday morning following the recovery of the victim by his family members. They informed the matter to the local residents who in turn informed the matter to the police. The family members and the local residents alleged that the girl with whom the victim had an affair might have instigated him to commit suicide.
Following the incident, the local residents stormed into the house of the victim's girlfriend and ransacked her house. The girl and her family members were also roughed up by the victim's relatives. Surajit's family members also claimed that the accused girl used to demand money from him and also mount psychological pressure.
It was also alleged that as the victim failed to pay the amount, the accused girl discontinued the relationship. She was also involved in a relationship with another youth, alleged the victim's family members. As a result of which, the victim had been suffering from depression and this had eventually led to his death. Police later rescued the girl and her family members. The girl was admitted to the hospital by the police.
After being informed, police reached the spot when a mob attacked the police personnel when a cop got injured. A huge contingent of police including Rapid Action
Force (RAF) was pressed into action. Police had to resort to the lathi-charge to disperse the mob. The mob also ransacked a police jeep.
Two persons have been arrested by the police for creating trouble. A police picket has been set up as there was a tension in the area.
