Youth found dead in house, live-in partner detained

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a youth whose body was recovered from a room at Bijaygarh under Jadavpur police station on Monday morning. The deceased Sumit Gurung (22) originally hailed from 11 Mile area in Kalimpong. There was a deep cut injury at the left side of the neck below the line of ear of the victim. The police have detained one Namrata Dorjee who was living with the deceased for interrogation.
"Prima facie it appears to be a case of murder. We have learnt that the youth was in a live-in relationship with Namrata and had come to this address and put up here identifying themselves as husband wife. The autopsy report will ascertain the cause of death," an investigating officer said.
Sleuths of the homicide wing of the detective department of Kolkata Police also visited the spot. On receiving information about the death from the locals, officers from Jadavpur police station rushed to the spot and removed the body to MR Bangur Hospital. The police, however, are yet to recover any instrument that had inflicted injury upon the victim.
In another incident, a woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tobin Road at Baranagar on Monday morning. The local residents found the woman aged around 25-28 lying between two taxis that were parked by the side of the road.
The matter was informed to the police. They came to the spot and rushed the victim to the hospital where the doctors said that the victim had died a few hours ago.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the crime had taken place elsewhere and the body was later dumped near Baranagar police station. Police are ruling out the possibility of the woman being raped and murdered.
