Youth cheats woman using matrimonial site

Kolkata: A youth has been arrested by the officers of Shyampukur police station for allegedly cheating a woman by promising to get married to her.

According to the police, the accused person identified as Subhendu Roy Choudhury of Nabagram in Murshidabad, created a profile in a wel-known matrimonial site and presented himself as a researcher in Mathematics and a government employee. A few months ago, he met a woman on the matrimonial site. He told the woman that he wanted to get married to her.

The woman started interacting with Choudhury and also exchanged mobile numbers. Following that talks were on about their marriage. One day Choudhury asked for some money from the woman. As the woman was almost convinced that she would get married with Choudhury, she gave the money.

The situation took a turn after Choudhury got the money. Slowly he stopped interaction with the woman and stopped all communication with her.

Smelling a rat, the woman tried to contact his family but failed to locate them.

On August 10, she lodged a complaint at the Shyampukur police station. While probing police found that he had cheated several women before in the same manner.

He used to publish advertisements in newspapers and created profiles in matrimonial sites to cheat prospected brides.

Though he used to pose as a highly qualified and a government employee, actually Choudhury was jobless.
