Youth arrested on charges of allegedly raping 25-year-old

Kolkata: Police have arrested a youth on charges of raping a 25-year-old girl when she went to attend one of her friends birthday party in Jadavpur.

Police said the victim, a resident of Beliaghata booked an app-based cab and went to Gandhi colony area of Jadavpur on Sunday evening to attend a birthday party at her friend's house.

According to police, the victim and other friends of the victim consumed alcohol.

The accused identified as Biswajit Debnath also attended the party.

The party lasted till late Sunday night. It was alleged that when the party got over, the accused suddenly dragged the victim to a room and raped her.

She tried to fight him but the accused soon over powered her who was also in a drunken state.

Police are investigating on how the other friends of the victim did not have any clue about the incident. On the next morning, the victim again booked an app-based cab and returned home.

She later lodged a complaint at Jadavpur police station in this regard. On the basis of the complaint, police started a probe.

Police later reached the spot and started a probe. Police on Tuesday arrested the accused on charges of

raping the victim.

Police will also interrogate other friends who were present at the birthday party. It was learnt that the accused told the police that he had been framed and he did not commit the crime.
