Worker dies at E-W Metro construction site

Kolkata: A worker died at the East-West Metro construction site near Writers' Building on Wednesday.

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), the implementing agency of East-West

Metro construction work, will give compensation to the kin of the deceased.

The victim, identified as Sanjay Mahato, was a resident of Botanical Garden.

According to sources, the incident took place at 9 am when Sanjay was removing the concrete slab inside the tunnel.

He slipped and got trapped inside the tunnel of the ongoing East-West Metro construction site. He started profusely bleeding. Sanjay was rushed to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where he was declared dead.

However, KMRCL denied that Sanjay got trapped and died inside the tunnel.

"We will investigate the matter. Compensation will be given to the kin of the deceased. The amount has not been decided yet," said an official of the KMRCL.
