Woman's chopped up body found inside bags at Bally

Kolkata: Tension was triggered at Bally area after a woman's body parts and head was found inside two travel bags. Till Thursday night, the identity of the deceased could not be established. Five knives were also found inside the bags.

According to sources, local residents saw two bags filled with something at the Jetia Ghat under the Bally bridge on Thursday morning. A few of them subsequently went close and dragged the bags out of the water. As soon as they opened the bags, they saw the horrifying sight of the decapitated head and some body parts of a woman. Immediately, the Bally police station was informed. Police soon went to the spot and sent the head and body parts for autopsy examination. After preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the woman might have been aged between 25-30 years.

She was likely killed very recently as the body parts and the head was found in only partially decomposed condition. It is almost clear that the miscreant or miscreants involved in the crime had tried to hide her identity and thus had chopped up the body parts.

However, it is not clear that whether the bags were thrown into river Ganges from somewhere or if they had been dumped at the Jetai Ghat during the dark hours.

Police took a picture of the head and circulated it in all police stations of Howrah, Barrackpore and Kolkata Police. As there are no CCTV cameras installed in and around the Jetia Ghat, police are facing trouble cracking the case.

It is suspected that the woman might have been killed over some old rivalry and the motive behind the murder might be revenge. Though it is almost confirmed that the body parts found inside the second bag are of the woman, police may go for a DNA test to establish it officially.
