Woman's body found in metal box

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an unidentified middle-aged woman whose body was found inside a metal box at Bhowaniganj in Cooch Behar on Friday morning.

Police said local people found a metal box in garbage dump yard near a market at Bhowaniganj. They informed the police. Policemen from the local police station rushed to the spot and opened the box to find the body wrapped in a jute sack.

The police sent the body for an autopsy and initiated a probe in this connection.

According to a police officer, preliminary investigation revealed that someone had dumped the metal box in the garbage dump-yard in the wee hours. Police confirmed that someone had killed the woman and later dumped the body in the market area.

A police officer said that there were several injury marks on the face of the woman. She was beaten up and later smothered and she fell unconscious. The police officers are confirm that she was being murdered inside a house and to distract the police, the body was packed in the box and later dumped near the market. The accused are well aware of the locality.

The police are first trying to identify the woman. In a bid to do so, the investigating officers have sent the photographs of the body to all the police stations in the district and trying to know whether any complaint of any middle-aged woman going missing was lodged in the past few days.
