Woman raped by relative in Phoolbagan

Kolkata: A woman was allegedly raped by her relative in Phoolbagan early on Wednesday.

The accused was arrested on Thursday.

He was produced at the Sealdah Court and remanded to judicial custody till July 23.

According to sources, the victim, who is around 30, lived in Burdwan. At present, her husband is out of town.

Approximately one and a half months ago, she came to live with her relative in Phoolbagan.

It is alleged around 3:30 am on Wednesday, the accused person, who was her relative, entered her room when she was sleeping.

When the youth touched her inappropriately, she couldn't believe her eyes that her relative was sexually assaulting her. She tried to resist him, but failed as he forced himself on her.

She said he threatened her with dire consequences if she mentioned about the incident to anyone.

As the woman was in a state of shock, initially she did not tell anyone about the incident.

On Thursday, she disclosed the matter to other members of her relative's family.

The woman went to Phoolbagan police station and lodged a complaint against the youth. Police swung into action and arrested the accused from his home on Thursday. The victim woman was sent to hospital for medical examination.
