Woman panchayat sabhapati beaten up for protesting eve-teasing of sister

A woman panchayat sabhapati was manhandled for protesting against eve-teasing by a local youth who was in an inebriated state. The incident took place at Kanksa in West Burdwan late night on Wednesday.

Police arrested the accused youth Amar Bauri on the basis of the complaint lodged by the woman with the local police station on Thursday morning.

Police came to know after preliminary investigation that the woman found that the accused was passing lewd comments at her sister when they went to attend a marriage party.
The youth was in an inebriated state and he had been passing lewd comments at the sister of the panchayat sabhapati. The woman had initially not reacted considering that it may take a worse turn. But she couldn't restrict herself as the situation was going out of control when the youth started abusing her sister.

The woman raised her voice against it and she was beaten up by the accused youth. Some local people intervened and brought the situation under control. The woman went to the police station on Thursday morning and lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she was manhandled by one Amar.

The woman told the police that she had also being threatened of dire consequences as she had lodged a complaint against Amar who was arrested on the basis of her allegations.
She urged the police to take necessary steps so that they couldn't cause any harm, to her. A senior police officer said that they have started a probe into the incident and steps have also been taken to ensure security of the complainant.

The police officer said that they have asked the complainant to inform them
immediately if she receives any threat call.
