Woman jumps out of moving train to escape rape bid

Kolkata: A woman reportedly jumped out of a running train on Friday night near Lakshipur station at Purbasthali in East Burdwan.

She said a person whom she met at Howrah tried to rape her. To save herself she had to jump out of the train.

The woman said she belonged to Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas.

She had gone to meet her husband who worked in Kerala.

On Friday, she returned to Howrah and asked the accused person how she could she reach Sonarpur.

Taking advantage of the situation, the accused told the woman that he would help her to return home.

Meanwhile, the woman reportedly felt unwell while talking to the accused person and asked for help. She also told him that she has got no tickets.

The person reportedly told her that if she had no travel ticket, then railway police would arrest her.

Later, he told her to board a train from Howrah stating that it would go to Sonarpur. He also boarded the same train.

After the train reached Purbasthali, all the passengers alighted from the train and when the train started moving, the accused person allegedly tried to rape her.

Though she screamed for help, none from other compartments could hear her.

The woman somehow managed to free herself from the grip of the accused and jumped out of the train.

On Saturday morning, some local residents found her lying beside the railway track with multiple injuries. Immediately the police were informed. Sleuths rescued the woman and admitted her to a hospital in Katwa. Government Railway Police in Katwa has initiated a case. Till Sunday night, no one was arrested in this case.
