Woman gang-raped, husband beaten up

Kolkata: A woman was allegedly gang-raped by four unidentified miscreants while returning home from work with her husband. The incident took place at Basanti in South 24 Parganas on Tuesday night. The victim's husband had received serious injurious on his body when he tried to save his wife from the miscreants. Police said that she was returning home with her husband from work where both are employed as daily labourers. The miscreants were boozing when they were passing through the area. The miscreants stopped them and the woman was gang-raped in front of her husband. Her husband tried to stop the miscreants who dragged the woman by the side of the road and committed the crime. When the victim's husband tried to save his wife, he was attacked with a sharp weapon and he suffered serious injuries on various parts of his body.

He was bleeding profusely from his injuries. After committing the crime, the miscreants snatched all their belongings and robbed them. The local residents after coming to know about the incident informed the matter to the police. Police rushed to the spot and rescued the couple. The police took the injured victims to a block hospital in Basanti for treatment. The condition of the woman deteriorated and she was transferred to Canning Sub-Divisional hospital. The kin of the victim lodged a police compliant in the local police station on the basis of which a probe has been initiated. The local residents have alleged that some local miscreants booze there after the sundown. But no steps have been taken so far to arrest the accused so far. Police said that the miscreants were four in number.
