Woman found dead with slit throat at in-laws' residence

Kolkata: A woman was found dead at her in-laws' house at Basanti in South 24-Parganas on Monday morning. The throat of the woman, identified as Sulata Pailan who married Dulal Pailan of Radharanipur in Basanti a few years ago, was silt. The incident triggered tension among local residents. Police suspect that the incident occurred late on Sunday night.

The police are yet to confirm if the victim committed suicide or there is any foul play behind the incident. According to preliminary investigation, the cops suspect that the victim's husband had an extramarital affair, which lead to frequent quarrels between the two.

The family members of the woman alleged that her husband killed her as she opposed his illicit relationship. Local residents also told the police that the couple used to fight often. Some of them spotted the victim lying in a pool of blood inside her in-laws house and informed the matter to the local police station.

The police took the victim to a local health centre at Basanti where the doctors declared her brought dead. The cops are waiting for the postmortem report, which could throw some light into the death of the victim.

The family members of the woman lodged a complaint with the police accusing her husband of murder. A detailed probe has been initiated by the police in this regard.
