Woman found dead on Rugby ground in Maidan

Kolkata: The body of an unidentified woman was found on the Rugby ground in Maidan on Tuesday morning.

Some pedestrians saw the woman lying in a pool of blood and informed the police about it.

According to police, on Tuesday around 7:30 am, the woman aged around 30 years was seen lying unconscious beside a wooden log.

Upon receiving the information from the pedestrians, police rushed the spot to the SSKM hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Sources informed that the face of the body was smashed using some heavy object like rock or bricks.

Also, a bag containing some clothes was found near the body. Police suspect that the woman could be a street-dweller.

They found traces of blood on the log which also indicates that the woman has been murdered there. Later, the accused tried to hide her identity by smashing her face. After getting the information the homicide section of Detective Department (DD) has also investigated the case. Forensic experts have collected samples from the spot.

The bag and garments found near the body were also been sent for forensic examination. A person seen near the spot was later detained for questioning. According to sources, the doctor who had done the autopsy examination primarily opined that no signs of sexual assault or rape was found on the body.
