Woman dies after giving birth, kin alleges negligence

Tension ran high at Bongaon Hospital following the death of a woman who died after giving birth to a child and her family members alleged negligence in treatment.

The victim, Mamata Das (22), a resident of Machlandapur area under the Habra police station was admitted to the hospital. She gave birth to a baby on Sunday but her condition deteriorated early on Tuesday morning.

The family members of the victim and her neighbours reached the hospital after receiving the news of her death. They started a demonstration inside the hospital premises alleging negligence in the treatment of the woman. A scuffle broke out between the family members of the victim and the staff members of the hospital. A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The hospital authorities also told the family members that they would look into the issue.

The family members of the victim have alleged that the victim delivered a baby after which the hospital authorities told them that the condition of both the woman and her baby was stable. On Monday night, the family members of the victim were communicated that the two were well. On Tuesday morning, the family members suddenly informed that the patient died. This triggered a tension in the area as the family members staged a protest inside the hospital.

The family members wanted to know the cause of the woman's death from the hospital authorities. The family members also alleged that the hospital authorities failed to provide satisfactory answers in this regard. They also alleged that the attendants of the patient demanded money from the victim's family despite such a situation.

The family members lodged a complaint at the local police station against the hospital authorities on the basis of which the cops have started a probe. The victim's family members demanded strong action against those who will be found guilty.
