Woman crushed under bus while on first day to office

Kolkata: A woman who was going to join her office for the first day after undergoing training for nearly a month was killed after being knocked down by a speeding bus at Salt Lake sector V on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at around 8 am on Monday when she was trying to cross a road in front of the fire brigade office at sector V. Police have seized the bus but are yet to arrest the driver who has been absconding since the incident happened.
Police said that the victim, Mamoni Das, a resident of Kestopur area had got a job at a call centre after undergoing treatment for nearly one month. After successfully completing the training, she got the appointment letter on last Friday. She was supposed to join the office on Monday.
After the incident, the local people rushed to the victim who had suffered multiple injuries on her body. She was declared brought dead after being taken to the hospital. After being informed, police also reached the spot and started a probe in this regard.
The victim got married in 2009. The woman was looking for a job as there was some financial constraint in her family. But her husband did not allow her to opt for a job. After around eight years of marriage, her husband recently told her that she can join a job if she wants to. Following the incident, the victim had sat for an interview for a call centre job. She cleared the interview and undertook training for last one month after the completion of which she got an appointment letter on Friday.
Police have collected the CCTV footages from the spot where it was found the victim was knocked down by the bus when she was trying to cross the road. Police are conducting raids to nab the bus driver.
In a separate accident, around 5 persons were injured when the bus they were travelling in was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction. The incident occurred on second Hooghly bridge on Monday evening resulting in a huge traffic jam in the area.
The Kolkata-bound bus was at a high speed when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the Botanical Garden-bound bus from
Barasat on the second Hooghly bridge near the toll plaza. The truck overturned after hitting the bus. Police rushed to the spot and sent the injured passengers to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital for treatment. The truck driver fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
