Woman bludgeoned to death over land dispute

A woman was beaten to death in Bisnupur, South 24 Parganas on Sunday night. Sarpan Biwi, the victim was battered by bamboo sticks and iron rods. Her blood smeared body was lying on the roadside.

Police are searching for the assailants who disappeared soon after the incident. The family of the deceased lodged an FIR against four accused — Sukur Molla, Asraf Molla, Riyas Molla and Rashid Molla. "The accused are residents of Bisnupur, under the jurisdiction Bisnupur police station," said a police officer.

The investigators learnt that Sarpan Biwi was attacked by those men after she had an altercation with them over the possession of a land. They threatened to kill her if she did not change her demands.

Later she was attacked by the four men while she was on her way back home. "The spot of the incident was South 24 Parganas Simali Ghosh Para in Bisnupur where the body of the woman was found lying. After she was taken to a hospital by the police and the local residents, the doctors declared her brought dead," a local source informed.

However, infuriated mob ransacked the houses of the accused after the incident. "We want police to arrest Sukur Molla, Asraf Molla, Riyas Molla, and Rashid Molla as soon as possible. They escaped from the spot scot-free. But they can also attack other family members of Sarpan Biwi," the neighbours said.

Police suspect that they might have left the state. Meanwhile, police are waiting for the post-mortem report to come in. The investigators are probing the past criminal records of the accused.
They are in search of any incidents where the men might have been involved. Meanwhile, the local residents vented their anger on the four accused persons.

"We never expected they could beat her to death. It was a land dispute which could have been solved peacefully. We never expected that Sukur, Asraf and other would kill Sarpan Biwi," another neighbour said.
