Woman 'blackmailed' by boyfriend goes to police

Kolkata: A girl from Narendrapur in South 24-Parganas lodged a complaint with the police against her boyfriend who had allegedly blackmailed her using some of her personal photographs. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident. The victim in her complaint also alleged that her boyfriend had established physical relation with her with a promise of marriage.

The accused assured her that he would marry her and but later refused to do so. As she demanded an explanation from the accused when he failed to keep his promise, the accused alleged threatened her saying he would upload some of her personal photographs on the social media.

It was alleged that the accused had taken some photographs of the girl earlier.

Initially, the victim was scared to raise a complaint with the police as the accused threatened her with dire consequences. The victim has been identified as Pradeep Singh.

The victim finally gathered some courage and went to the police station. She told the matter to the police officers and also lodged a complaint. According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that the victim came in contact with the accused in 2018 through a social networking site.

After interacting with each other, they exchanged their mobile numbers. The interaction eventually led to a relationship in February this year.

The victim also told the police that the accused took her personal photographs when they had physical relations. Police suspect that the accused had no intention of marrying the girl. Police are trying to know the whereabouts of the accused. They are also trying to know if he had earlier ditched other women. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprit.
