'West Bengal taking steps to create environment for industry'

Kolkata: The West Bengal government is taking steps to create the right environment for setting up industries in the state and keen to address some challenges relating to land and infrastructure, an official said on Wednesday.

The state government has also earmarked funds for promotion of industry, commerce and enterprises, the official said.

"We are taking steps to create environment for setting up industries," state commerce and industry secretary Pritha Sarkar said at an event organised by CII here.

The state government is "keen to address some challenges relating to land and infrastructure", she said.

Sarkar said the state has done "exceptionally well" in the MSMEs sector.

Commenting on the trend towards automation, she said artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and internet of things (IoT) will gradually prevail over the activities.

"These are hard realities which one has to embrace", the official said.
