Weather office forecasts scattered rainfall during Durga Puja

Kolkata: There is good news for those who have been apprehensive about rain in city during Durga Puja.

The Regional Meteorological Centre presumes that there would be no heavy rainfall in the city and its adjoining areas during the puja days.

However, some places may witness scattered rainfall in the first week of October. The MeT office apprehends that the scattered rainfall in some pockets may not dampen the spirit of the puja revellers.

The city's sky will mostly remain clear and the people will experience a pleasant weather during the puja days. The temperature may remain just below the normal during that time, the weather office said. "There may be light showers during the Puja days in some places but the city is expected to remain dry. The weather in North Bengal and South Bengal districts during puja will be the same. The temperature will remain normal in North Bengal as well. The weather is expected to remain pleasant," a senior weather official said.

Meanwhile, it may continue to rain in South Bengal districts in the next couple of days as the monsoon axis has become active in the state. Various South Bengal districts, including the city have been receiving rainfall for the past few days. There may be light to moderate rainfall in the city and some other districts till Saturday. The situation may improve from Sunday.

The weather office said a low pressure trough has formed over the state intensifying the monsoon axis further.

There has been an incursion of moisture from the sea as a result of which there is a possibility formation of cloud bringing more rain the coastal districts in the next two days. There may be thundershower and lightning in some South Bengal in the evening hours of Friday.

The districts which are expected to receive maximum rainfall are North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore and Jhargram. There is a heavy rainfall prediction in all the five districts of North Bengal.

The city's sky mostly remained cloudy in various parts from Thursday morning. It received light rainfall in some parts later in the day. A moderate to heavy rainfall lashed the districts such as North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and Jhargram.
