Weather likely to improve from today

Kolkata: With a lack of rainy spell and thundershower which had been predicted in the city till Monday, the situation is likely to improve from Tuesday.

There was no rainfall or thundershower reported from South Bengal districts on Monday. On Saturday, the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore had predicted light to moderate rainfall in various South Bengal districts, including the city, particularly during evening in the next 48 hours. The districts in the Western parts of the state like Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore have received heavy rainfall till late Sunday night.

According to the weather office prediction, the temperature is expected to go up by a few notches from Tuesday, with the rainy spell ending. People in the city may feel a sense of discomfort due to the humid condition.

It may be mentioned here that moderate to heavy rain accompanied with hailstorm had lashed various parts of the city on Sunday evening, bringing the mercury down by a few notches.

Some people were killed after being struck by lightning during the thunderstorm that hit several parts of South Bengal on Sunday. Rain was caused due to low pressure troughs which had formed over Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

A moderate level of temperature fluctuation may occur in the next couple of days during night hours. During the day, a sense of discomfort may prevail due to the high level of humidity. People in the city may feel the heat as temperature is expected to go up.

According to sources in the Met office, there may be some scattered rainfall in some parts of North Bengal in the next couple of days. There is also a possibility of thundershower coupled with strong winds in the area.
