WBSEDCL penalises 6,188 puja pandals for power theft

Kolkata: The state-owned utility West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) today said it has penalised 6,188 pandals worth Rs 1.24 crore for illegally drawing power.
The utility, which distributes power across the state except Kolkata and a section of Howrah, said inspection was carried out at 20,370 puja pandals during the four puja days of Mahasashti, Mahasaptami, Mahaashtami and Mahanavami and it found 6,188 pandals had violated norms and were drawing power without permission and temporary connections, that have been made mandatory for all puja committees.
WBSEDCL said it has penalised all the 6,188 puja committees totalling Rs 1.24 crore for drawing power illegally.
It said 25,216 puja pandals had taken temporary connection and Rs 11.94 crore was realised from them.
