WBJEE 2019: Nine out of 10 on merit list from CBSE, ISC

Kolkata: Nine out of ten students whose names have figured in the merit list of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination this year hail from CBSE and ICSE/ISC boards. The only position on the merit list from a school in Bengal Board has been bagged by Arka Das of Sarada Vidyapith, Sri R K Pally of Sonarpur.

Interestingly, three positions on the merit list have gone to Hemsheela Model School, Durgapur, which is affiliated to CBSE board. Soham Mistri has come first and Koustav Sen has come third, while Subhajyoti Ghosh has bagged the tenth position. South Point School, which is also affiliated to CBSE, has two names on the merit list. Tamajit Banerjee has stood second while Angikar Ghosal has secured the fourth position.

Snehinh Sen of Delhi Public School at Ruby Park, Kasba, has stood sixth, while Vinit Raj, who has bagged the seventh spot, is a student of Burnpur Riverside School which is also affiliated to CBSE board.

The eighth and ninth positions have gone to Rishabh Agarwal of Purwanchal Vidyamandir in Salt Lake and Abhinav Dutta of Sudhir Memorial Institute, Jessore Road, Doltala, both affiliated to ISC board. The first three rank holders will pursue their engineering studies outside the state. Soham Mistri, the first rank holder of the state Joint Entrance, had ranked 48 in JEE (Advanced) and will pursue computer engineering at IIT Mumbai. Tamajit Banerjee will study Computer Science at IIT Delhi or Mumbai, while Koustav Sen will study the same subject at IIT Mumbai. Koustav has ranked 42 in JEE (Advanced) and secured the first position in the same examination from Bengal.
