WBBSE bats for more transparency in automatic evaluation

Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is bringing in a change in the automatic evaluation process of answer scripts of candidates, with the objective to rule out disparity of marks scored by him/her.

"The WBBSE wants to carry out proper evaluation of answer scripts to ensure that deserving candidates get their due marks in all the subjects. This system is already in place since 2013. The change is just a procedural one," said Kalyanmoy Ganguly, president of WBBSE.

In the existing process, if an examinee secures 90 percent or more marks that is an aggregate of 630 or more out of 700 and it is found that there is disparity of marks (low score) in one of the subjects, then the script goes for automatic evaluation.

From next year, this aggregate will be 610 out of 700. If it is found that a candidate scores 610 or more and low marks in one of the subjects, then the answer script with low marks will automatically go for another round of checking.

A senior official of WBBSE said that this move will bring in more transparency in evaluation pattern and will also bring down the cases of review application on the part of candidates. "The review results are usually delayed, but with the new process in place, marks disparity will be sorted out before the publication of results," the official added. The Madhyamik examination in 2020 will start from February 18 and end on February 27.
