WB govt to set up food processing unit at Haringhata

Kolkata: The West Bengal Government is setting up a food processing unit in Haringhata in Nadia district to process goat meat.
There is huge demand for the item in Bengal and this plant will satisfy part of that demand.
West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation is setting up the plant on a plot of 2 acres. Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned for the project.
The unit would have the capacity to process 300 goats at a time, that is, in each of the six-hour shifts. The meat would be packed in 500 gm and 1 kg packets.
At full capacity, it is expected for the plant to produce 2.5 ton of packed meat per day.
This plant is the result of the success of a pilot project through which goat meat was being sold from the Haringhata Meat outlets.
After the plant becomes operational, the meat would be sold from 240 outlets across the state.
