Wanted criminal arrested with firearms

Bidhannagar City Police arrested dreaded criminal Biswanath Mondal late at Tuesday night along with some fire weapons. The investigators were on the lookout of Mondal for several years. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap at Gauranganagar under the jurisdiction of New Town police station and arrested him following which, he was interrogated for hours.

Police filed cases against Biswanath Mondal, alias Gendu, under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. A source said, the investigators recovered one 8 mm pistol and one round of bullet from him.

"Police arrested him from in front of a university campus at Gauranganagar. Gendu is a dreaded criminal. He had been terror in the whole area for several years and was involved in various anti-social activities," said a local source.

However, the investigators would try to know that how he had collected the fire weapons, who were his arms suppliers, who gave him money and whether he was involved in any recent crimes or not. The investigators would also check that whether he was under the patronage of any influential man in that area or not.

The investigators will ask him about some recent crimes that took place in New Town, Bidhannagar and Baguiati areas. He may have some information about the cases as well.
