Vermicompost to improve quality and quantity of tea production

Kolkata: The West Bengal Khadi and Village Industries Board (WBKVIB) has taken up a project for improving the quality of tea grown in the state through the use of vermicompost in the tea gardens.
Vermicompost, which is fully organic, is essential for improving the quality of the soil, and hence the quantity and the quality of production, as well as helps in preventing diseases of plants.
Tea grown in vermicompost both tastes and smells better.
The Board has, for a start, selected 560 tea workers from Mainaguri block for training in the production and use of vermicompost.
The Finance Department has provided Rs three crore for the project.
