Vegetable prices see minor drop after repeated checking

Kolkata: After consecutive checking for three days, Enforcement Branch (EB) officials of Kolkata Police noticed a minor decrease in the price of some vegetables.

According to EB officials, the shop owners were strictly warned not to demand price over the limit decided by the state government. Though several vegetable sellers initially tried to confront police telling that they were buying the vegetables at a high rate, EB officials warned them not to do so and also told them that they would again come back to check whether the order is being followed or not. If violation of the instruction is found, legal action will follow, they informed.

As per the plan, on Sunday EB officials visited 69 markets which they had visited earlier. During check, they found that the prices of onion, garlic, ginger and capsicum have decreased slightly. Though the amount of decrease is not major for now, EB officials are expecting a larger price drop soon.

"Our vigilance will continue. Everyday markets will be visited to put a curb on the demand of excessive price," said an EB official.
