Varsity to act over incorrect info on JU VC in Google search

Kolkata: The authorities of Jadavpur University has stumbled upon a peculiar problem as the Wikipedia option in google search engine designates varsity vice chancellor with a different name and a Hindi film dialogue beside his name.

The Information Technology cell of the university has been asked to enquire into the matter.

A senior official of the university said that there is nothing wrong with VC Suranjan Das's name in the original website of JU or in the independent Wikipedia but when someone goes in the google search bar and types "Jadavpur University Wikipedia" the search leads to a different name of Das and a Hindi film dialogue in bracket written beside that name.

"It is very strange. But, as soon as the matter came to my notice on Friday I immediately asked our IT cell to look into the matter. They have been asked to probe the matter and submit a report which they will be doing soon. After examining the report we will take the decision about complaining to the Cyber Cell of Kolkata Police," said Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, Pro vice-chancellor of adavpur University .

It is learnt that Bhattacharjee has already spoken with Das and the latter has urged him to do the needful. The university has tried to rectify the blooper but had failed to do so.

There has been more than one occasion when in December 2014 and April 2015, the website of JU was hacked. Things were sorted out in consultation with the IT cell of the varsity.
