Uttar Banga Utsav to kick off in Jan

Darjeeling: The Uttarbanga Utsav (North Bengal Festival) is scheduled to be flagged off in Siliguri on January 22, 2018.

Meetings to chalk out preparation plans are being held for the festival. The festival will continue till January 30.
North Bengal Development Minister Rabindranath Ghosh stated that the cultural extravaganza will be held in all eight districts of North Bengal.
Following a preparatory meeting at the "Uttarkanya," the mini Secretariat in the Jalpaiguri district, Ghosh stated that the theme districts will be Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur.
"We will be giving Banga Ratna awards to a person each from the 8 districts of North Bengal" added Ghosh.
Darjeeling and Kalimpong will also host the event. The event will be held auditoriums, open stages and erected pandals throught North Bengal.
"Along with the Banga Ratna Award one meritorious student will be felicitated from each of the 54 constituencies of North Bengal. They will be given a cash award of Rs. 10,000/- each along with citations" stated the Minister. As a cost curtailing measure, performers and show biz personalities from Kolkata or Mumbai will not be brought in this time.
