Undertrial flees from hospital, held

Kolkata: An undertrial prisoner, identified as Raju Mondal alias Golam Hussain Mondal, escaped from R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday night.

Later on wee hours of Tuesday, police nabbed him from under the Western slope of

Belgachia flyover.

According to sources, Mondal, an accused of a rape case, was lodged at Ashokenagar police station. He was in judicial custody at Dum Dum Correctional Home since last one year. Due to some health problems, he was recently admitted to R G Kar Hospital. Two guard Jail Warders were posted at the hospital to keep an eye on Mondal. On Monday night around 11pm, Mondal went to bathroom.

After several minutes when he did not come out, Jail Warders broke open the door and found that Mondal has escaped through the broken window.An alarm was sounded and Tala police station was also informed.

After chief controller, Dum Dum Correctional Home lodged a complaint, police started search operation in and around the hospital.

Around 3:50 am, on Tuesday, police and staff of Dum Dum Correctional Home spotted Mondal under the Belgachia flyover. Seeing the police he tried to flee but failed to escape from the police.
