Two private nursing homes accused of medical negligence, case filed in both incidents

Kolkata: Two private nursing homes in two districts have been accused of medical negligence leading to the death of patients.
One incident took place at a private nursing home at Rishra in Hooghly. The family members of the patient went on a rampage ransacking a portion of the nursing home. The incident triggered tension in the locality. The senior police officers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The victim Priya Bhakat was admitted to the nursing home on Wednesday. Some of the staff members of the nursing home called up the family members of the victim saying she needed to be shifted to the city as her condition deteriorated. After being informed, the family members rushed to the nursing home to shift the patient to a city hospital. By the time they reached, they were told by the hospital staff members that the patient had died. The family members then became agitated and rampaged inside the nursing home. The family members alleged negligence on the part of the nursing home and demanded an inquiry into the incident. The nursing authorities, however, denied the allegation of negligence.
A similar incident took place at another nursing home at Mechogram in Bankura. Umarani Hazra (33), a resident of Kolaghat area was taken to the nursing home after she felt the labour pain. Hours after giving birth to a boy child the patient died.
The victim's husband Rabindranath Hazra alleged that the patient died due to negligence of the doctors and nurses while performing a delivery. A heated altercation broke out between the family members of the victim and the staff members of the nursing home. An angry mob soon started ransacking the furniture, windowpanes of the nursing home. The operation room was also ransacked. A huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
In both the cases, the cops filed complaints and are investigating into the matters.
