Sagar Rajbangshi, the third person who was also riding as a pillion, has been undergoing treatment at Chandannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. According to the hospital sources, his condition is serious.
The three youths were returning home on a motorcycle, when the accident occurred. According to the police, Raju was riding the bike while the other two were riding as pillion.
The bike was at a high speed when they lost control over it and hit a roadside tree. All the victims were lying at the spot with multiple injuries.
After hearing a loud thud, local people rushed to the spot and rushed them to Chandannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where Raju and Aurobindo were pronounced brought dead. After being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the bike which was severely damaged due to the intensity of the accident.
The local people alleged on Thursday that young bikers often over-speed late at night, resulting in accidents. The matter was raised with the local police station, but no steps have been taken so far to check such incidents.
Police have given assurances that vigil would be conducted to track down the vehicles that flout traffic norms but no substantial changes have happened, alleged locals.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that excessive speed might have led to the incident. After interrogating the local residents, they came to know that there were no other vehicles passing through the area when the accident occurred.
Police are also probing to know if the victims were in an inebriated state, the possibility of which the investigators are not ruling out.
