Two killed in separate accidents in state
Kolkata: Two persons were killed in separate accidents in the state on Saturday.
One incident took place on Beliaghata main road at around 12 pm on Saturday when the victim was trying to get down from a running bus.
The victim has been identified as one Satyendra Kumar Sahu. The Rajarhat-bound bus from Nabanna was heading towards Belighata from Sealdah side. When the bus was crossing Phool Bagan area, the victim was trying to get down from the bus when he came under the wheels of the bus.
The driver of the bus sped up the vehicle as there was another bus of the same route coming from behind. As the driver sped up, the victim fell on the road while getting down from the bus and he was crushed under the wheels. The driver tried to flee from the spot along with the vehicle when the traffic police managed to catch the driver. The local residents rushed the victim to the NRS Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
In another incident, a youth died after being run over by a running train at Bidhannagar station on Saturday afternoon. It was learnt that the victim's body was lying on the road and was later recovered by the police. Police said that the victim whose identity is yet to be ascertained was walking along the rail track to enter into the platform when his leg was trapped in the railway bridge. During that time, a Bongaon-bound train was coming on the track and he was eventually run over by the speeding train. After being hit by the train, the victim's body fell on the road underneath the railway bridge.
In the third incident, around 10 persons were injured when a bus they were travelling in lost control and overturned at Howrah's Amta. The local people rushed the victims to the hospital. Some of the injured passengers have been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
