Two killed, 20 injured in 2 separate road accidents

Kolkata: Two persons were killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in North Dinajpur and Murshidabad on Monday morning.
The first incident took place on Balurghat-Itahar state highway near Tilna area in North 24-Parganas when two speeding trucks collided head on killing the driver and his helper.
One truck was carrying bricks while the other sand. The driver of the truck carrying sand and his helper died on spot. They have been identified as Saidul Haq and Mannan Hossain. The driver of the other truck and four others who were travelling in the vehicle suffered critical injuries and were admitted to Raigunge Superspecaility hospital. The condition of the driver is stated to be critical. Police said the brick laden truck was going to Balurghat when the sand laden truck was coming from the opposite direction hit it. Following the incident, locals rushed to the spot and took part in the rescue operation. Police rushed to the spot and took the injured victims to the hospital.
According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that both the vehicles were at high speed as a result of which the drivers could not control their vehicles. Police are not ruling out the possibilities of one of the truck drivers had fallen asleep at the time of the accident. They have seized both the vehicles for the sake of investigation.
In another accident, as many as 15 people were injured when the bus they were travelling in was hit by a truck. The incident took place near Gokarna area on Kandi-Berhampur state highway in Murshidabad on Monday morning.
According to police, around 6 of the injured passengers sustained critical injuries and they were admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital while the others had been undergoing treatment at a local hospital. There were 40 passengers traveling in the bus when the accident took place.
The bus driver fled the spot immediately after the accident. The truck driver has also been absconding since the incident took place.
