Two history-sheeters shot dead in Jagaddal

Kolkata: Two notorious criminals were shot dead on Thursday night and Friday afternoon in Jagaddal area. One of the miscreants, identified as Raju alias Gobor Raju was found dead at Kaugachhi area in Jagaddal on Thursday night.

On the other hand, on Friday afternoon, a notorious criminal identified as Prabhu Sau was reportedly shot dead in Jagaddal during a hot chase by police.

According to sources, on Thursday night local residents of Khudiramnagar at Kaugachhi in Jagaddal saw a youth lying in front of a ration shop. When they went close to him, they found Raju lying dead in a pool of blood.

Jagaddal police station was informed immediately. Later, police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy examination. During preliminary inspection, two bullet injuries were found on the body. It is suspected that Raju might have been shot by some other criminals from his rival gang.

Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon police personnel patrolling the Sukhiapara area in plain clothes saw two notorious criminals of the area. When they tried to intercept the duo, they reportedly started running in order to flee.

When police chased them, the duo allegedly hurled bombs and fired multiple rounds at them. Sources informed that police also fired several rounds in retaliation.

While fleeing, one miscreant somehow managed to give a slip to the police, whereas Sau climbed up to the roof of a house from outside. At that moment, a bullet penetrated his head from behind and

he fell through the asbestos roof.

Though police initially denied the firing, Commissioner of Police (CP) Manoj Verma later admitted that

the police personnel had fired in self-defense. However, he did not make it clear whether Sau had died due to police firing.

According to Verma, both the criminals had come there a few days ago and threatened the local residents. They came there again on Thursday, about which police were informed by their sources. He also stated that both the deceased have criminal records. Search is on to nab the other criminal who managed to flee.

In a separate incident, unknown miscreants hurled a few bombs at Kantapukur area, where police had arranged a football match to regain

confidence of the local residents. The match was subsequently cancelled due to the incident.
