Two held for TMC's Hanskhali Block president's murder

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started investigation into the murder of Dulal Biswas, president of Hanskhali Block of Trinamool Congress and the pradhan of Bagula-I gram panchayat in Nadia.

Biswas was killed by unknown criminals inside the party office on late Sunday evening. Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee and party MP Abhishek Banerjee had gone to Bagula and attended the meeting held to condole the death of Biswas. Banerjee said he would talk to the Chief Minister to take stringent actions against the persons involved in the murder.

Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Biswas who were interrogated for long hours. The CID team visited the site along with forensic experts and officers of Krishnanagore police station. The forensic experts also collected samples from the crime scene. Biswas was murdered inside the party office in presence of around 25 party workers including his son. They tried to overpower the assailants and were successful in removing the masks from the faces of two of the criminals. But three more criminals who had stayed outside the party office opened fire to scare the people and the assailants left the spot.

The police felt that they had crossed the railway track situated behind the party office and entered the locality through a narrow lane. Meanwhile, CID officers said hired criminals had been deployed to eliminate Biswas.

Dipankar Biswas, Dulal's son had lodged an FIR against 13 people including Kartick Biswas. The police said Dipankar had identified two of the criminals and a massive hunt is on for them. Local Trinamool leaders held some BJP leaders responsible for the murder.

Biswas, an erstwhile CPI(M) leader, joined Trinamool Congress after the 2011 Assembly polls. Because of his organisational capabilities, he roped in many CPI(M) workers.

There was a threat to his life and the Nadia district administration had deployed an armed bodyguard and incidentally, the security personnel had taken a leave on Sunday. CID officers on Tuesday talked to some of the Trinamool workers who were present in the room when the murder took place.
